My name is Michael Consbruck, owner of The Wine and Cheese Shop, and I’d like to tell you a little bit about me. I grew up on a farm outside Juniata and attended college at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. 🌽

Upon graduating, I found myself in Los Angeles writing textbooks for schools. After seven years of writing, I made a career change, went back to school, attended UCLA, and earned a degree in landscape architecture and urban planning. 📚

Starting over in a new career meant I had to start at the bottom and take a second job to make ends meet. That second job happened to be in the wine industry. 🍷

I fell in love with all things wine, from the agricultural aspect of growing grapes to the science behind making wine. As I learned more and more, I decided to open my own wine bar in addition to being a practicing landscape architect. I owned and operated that wine bar in LA for ten years before moving back to Nebraska.

So where does the cheese part come into play? 🧀

Cheese and wine kind of go hand in hand, and I began offering cheese boards at the wine bar for guests to have a food option. I began the deep dive of learning about cheese and ended up going to The Cheese School of San Francisco (yes, that’s a real thing!) in 2015 to learn more. One thing led to another, and I opened my own cheese shop in Los Angeles, in addition to my architectural practice and my wine bar. I guess you could say my hobby jobs quickly became very time-consuming.

We made a decision to move back to Nebraska in 2021 to be closer to family and finally made the move in 2022, just in time for planting season. 🚜

I currently farm with my cousin and uncle in addition to running The Cheese and Wine Shop. I love all things cheese and wine and have spent 15+ years studying, learning, and operating businesses within the cheese and wine world as a hobby and passion.

I LOVE helping people discover what they enjoy and plan on holding educational seminars for anyone who wants to learn more about both wine and cheese!
